Monday – Yin: 10am – 11.15am  – Quaker meeting house Southdown road, Harpenden  £12 drop in Termly discount if block booking.

Wednesday – Ashtanga: 8.15pm – 9.15pm The Pilates Workshop – Southdown Drop in £10

Ashtanga Yoga classes for all levels – it’s a journey, it doesn’t matter if you are new to Yoga or if you have been practising for years, each person is on their own path – no ego, no competition, no yoga police. Just you and your mat and me to help you on your way!

Yin – New Yin classes starting… Yin is the perfect way to restore your body. The postures encourage your body to open and let go and are held for a minimum of 5 minutes each. Its the perfect class for those wishing to have the restorative element to complement their other fitness classes or for those less able to be twisting into pretzel shapes! This Yoga also challenges our minds  – it’s harder then we think to be quiet and stop our internal chatter!

Big Dog Little Dog – This is yoga for Patent (or Carer) and child. It’s a chance to connect one on one for an hour and the results are incredible. I’ve seen amazing bonding happen in only one class! If you have more than one child it’s important you alternate classes or chose this as an activity with one of your children, it’s about finding that special relationship so one child at a time is key.

I am a yogi and a mama of two girls and I believe yoga is for everyone. It can truly change your life in the simplest yet most amazing ways.

I came to yoga quite late – post children – I was in my mid 30’s before I even considered teaching. (I still have a full time media job in London and I previously trained as an actress and a director so life has taken me many places!) I had dabbled with yoga on and off over the years but it took me coming to a certain point in my life before I saw how I could make it a part of my routine and most importantly allowed me to see how I could share my knowledge of yoga with others.

I have never been a sporty type  – always more arty and creative and pretty useless at all things competitive and physical. If you had told me a few years ago I would have qualified as an Ashtanga teacher I wouldn’t have believed you. I’m living proof yoga is for everyone.

I have a teaching qualification in Ashtanga Yoga and I trained with the brilliant and wonderful Ryan Spielman. Ryan taught me that although yoga, particularly Ashtanga, requires discipline and dedication it also requires great compassion and an open mind.

What I love about yoga is it is not just a type of exercise – of course it does exercise your body,  in fact it can change your body, but it is a part of a much deeper journey. Yoga is so much more….

I have also trained as a Yin teacher and will be offering these classes now too.

In the words of the wonderful Yin Teacher Norman Blair “So much so often a yoga practice is about striving, there’s that achieving attitude. Yin yoga can give us the space to slow down, a chance to stay with our experiences rather than always rushing. Yin is about softness and an emphasis on relaxing muscular tissue. Through these attitudes there can be a gaining of harmony and peace: so there is a greater ease, a deeper sense of balance, feelings of calmness and acceptance.”
